So it's no sin that half of them will be in "exotic" locations.Roger Knightshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02393847736300658074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038158934492547818.post-32762936056448556732015-02-10T20:57:36.733+10:002015-02-10T20:57:36.733+10:00Hello again TC,
In the link I sent you, I may hav...Hello again TC,

In the link I sent you, I may have failed to include the slash in the concluding “[/a]”. (Using brackets for illustrative purposes.) But it’s actually there in my SkS comment, so it should have worked, at:
http://www.skepticalscience.com/news.php?p=2&t=69&&n=627#108595

Here are more candidates for SkS’s Climate Change Myths. (I think that the sooner contrarians stop using them, the more credible they’ll be.) I’ve gone through SkS’s list to ensure that it hasn’t listed them already.

Another contrarian myth I don't swallow is that is is hypocritical for warmists to fly around to give speeches and attend meetings. What are they going to do, walk? And their wearing a hair shirt personally (by going without air conditioning, etc.) won't make a dime's worth of difference to global warming.

Another: That IPCC members are getting free trips and perks. Apart from staff, IPCC participants are unpaid volunteers.

Also, that IPCC meetings are held in glamorous locales. Not necessarily: Lima, Peru is a tourist’s hell, I’ve heard. And delegates probably have no time to get out of their hotel—they’re overwhelmed with work. (Other attendees do have time to network while seeing the sights—but that’s a valid reason for them to attend—and if the IPCC wants a lot of attendees who’ll spread the Message, why not?) And why should meetings be held in some dump like Newark, anyway? It’s normal for attractive locales to be selected for meetings.

Roger Knights
Roger Knightshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02393847736300658074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038158934492547818.post-84566396604428873362014-12-30T18:32:26.893+10:002014-12-30T18:32:26.893+10:00Another contrarian claim that makes me wince for m...Another contrarian claim that makes me wince for my side is saying that warmist scientists are committing the fallacy of an appeal to ignorance when they explain that they have settled on CO2 being a major climate driver because they've exhausted the other explanations. An appeal to ignorance is only a fallacy in certain situations, as explained in detail in Douglas Walton's book, "Arguments from Ignorance" (1996).Roger Knightshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02393847736300658074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038158934492547818.post-22257755717835694632014-12-30T05:49:34.420+10:002014-12-30T05:49:34.420+10:00I am embarrassed when other climate contrarians as...I am embarrassed when other climate contrarians assert that it is an “appeal to authority” for warmists to invoke the consensus of climatologists on AGW. Such contrarians haven’t read anything about that fallacy in works on logic and critical thinking—or even checked what Wikipedia has to say about it.

Incidentally, Henry Bauer argues that a consensus is the best science can do, and how it does operate, in Chapter 3 (pages 42–62) of his Scientific Literacy and the Myth of the Scientific Method (1992). He calls it the knowledge filter.
Roger Knightshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02393847736300658074noreply@blogger.com
